Five recent MNPS graduates have been awarded National Merit Scholarships by the universities they’ll attend this fall.
Each of the scholarships is worth between $500 and $2,000 per year for up to four years and is sponsored by a college or university. The recipients and their schools are:
Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School
- Grayson Nelms, University of Tennessee-Knoxville
Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet High School
- Jason Luo, Vanderbilt University
- Lauren Mayo, Vanderbilt University
- Luke Veltum, University of Alabama
- Liam Zak, University of Alabama

Each of the students was named a finalist in March for the National Merit Scholarship, a nearly $26 million pool of scholarships that also includes corporate-sponsored awards as well as $2,500 grants from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Another round of scholarships sponsored by colleges and universities will be announced in July.
