Student-Parent Handbook
Our Agreement With Families
We want to encourage you to take full advantage of the resources and information provided in this online handbook. Engaged parents and guardians are critical partners in student success. The more you know, the more you can be involved — and we want you to be fully involved.
This handbook provides important information on student rights, discipline rules and procedures, and family resources. This site also provides information on important permissions your school needs to allow your child access to certain programs and equipment or related to the information you wish to have publicly released about your child. It is important that guardians review and respond to these Family Permissions.
While not all of the material on these pages may apply to you and your child, there is essential information that will help you work with your child's school and be the best advocate for your child's educational needs. Metro Schools may review and update policies and practices during the year. The current text of all policies will remain available online. For questions or support with translation services, please call the Family Information Center at 615-259-INFO(4636) or contact your student's principal.
A Note from Dr. Adrienne Battle, Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to Metro Nashville Public Schools! We know you have choices, and we thank you for selecting Nashville Public Schools and giving us the honor of educating your children. Throughout this handbook, you'll find information to help you navigate the school year, including links to policies and procedures, resources for families, and the calendar for the next nine months. You'll also find important information on the rights of MNPS students, families and staff to learn and work in safe and supportive environments. We have a shared responsibility to uphold these rights while ensuring children get the high-quality education they deserve. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with this information and use it as a guide throughout the school year. Thank you, and we look forward to working with you!
Permission Forms
Permission forms for parent/guardian review are available online. Visit our Permissions Portal to fill out and submit required forms. You will need the student ID number and the guardian email you provided for your student. Once submitted online, parents/guardians who want to make changes must contact their child's school. If you are a Metro Schools' employee, you will need to attach a personal email account to your student in Campus because your work-assigned email account cannot be used to access the Permissions Portal.
If you experience any issues using the permissions portal, please contact either your student's school or our Family Information Center, which will send reports to the Information Technology Department. If you need translation support or require a printed copy of these permission forms, please contact the Family Information Center or your child's school.
What forms are in the permissions portal? We have outlined and explained each one to help you get ready to submit the forms.
