This section will take you through the steps needed to register your child for school - and connect you to staff who can walk you through if necessary.

We offer simple online registration and on this page you will find instructions and a list of required documents to help you enroll online.
Please review the pre-enrollment information to see if you need additional information or steps before enrolling your student.
If you prefer, or need help, you can register in person at your nearest Enrollment Center. There are several across Davidson County for your convenience.

Pre-Enrollment Information

Your School Options

There's a school for every learner at Metro Schools—from neighborhood schools to magnet schools to specialty schools and a virtual school.

Pre-K and Kindergarten

Applying for Pre-K

Pre-K follows a different process and requires an application in addition to registration.

Incoming Kindergartners

All rising Kindergarten students must register for school, even if they attended an MNPS Pre-K last year or if they are using the school options process. Families can register online or make an appointment at an Enrollment Center.
There is a streamlined registration process in the Campus Portal for current Pre-K students.

Early Learning Website

English Learners

If English is not the first language for you and your family, your child should be enrolled through the Office of English Learners. During the enrollment process, your child will be assessed to determine if they are eligible for English Learner services.

Do You Need a Translator?

Do you need a translator or speak a language other than English at home? Look for translation support and registration information on the English Learners Registration page.

Registration Step-by-Step

This section offers registration information and how to apply for a student ID online, which is required before applying for Pre-K or an Optional School. There is also a list of required documents, a video tutorial for online registration and answers to frequently asked questions.

Step 1

Gather Required Documents

To register a student for grades K to 12, please have the following documents:

A completed Student Registration Packet (The packets are required only for in-person enrollment and available for download on this page)
Record of Birth (birth certificate, passport, visa, I-94, etc.)
TN Immunization Certificate (unless appropriate medical or religious exemption documentation is provided)
Before you schedule your child's pre-school-year doctor's appointment, be sure you double-check immunizations requirements.

Photo identification of the parent or guardian (driver's license, passport, military ID, etc.)
Proof of Residency (current lease, mortgage statement, utility bill, etc.)
Recent Transcript/Report Card (optional)

Step 2

Enroll Online or In-Person

Once you have gathered your documents, registering online is easy though the Online Registration Portal .

On the portal, you can:

Register for school - Grades K to 12
Apply for the Student Identification Number, which is required for Pre-K and Optional Schools applications.

Can't Register Online?

MNPS Enrollment Centers are conveniently located across the district and operate from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
You must make an appointment to register at your nearest Enrollment Center.

What If I Don't Have All My Documents?

If you are unable to provide any of these documents, please contact an Enrollment Center for assistance. Our team will work with you to address any barriers to enrollment.
Students and families experiencing homelessness: Students experiencing homelessness as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act students will be immediately enrolled, even if they are unable to provide required enrollment documents, including proof of residency [42 U.S.C. § 11432(g)(3)(C)(i)(I)] or proof of immunizations.
- MNPS Enrollment Center staff member or school staff will provide help to complete the paperwork that needs to be on file. Enrollment Centers can be found in various school locations across Davidson County.

Immunization & Vaccines

Immunizations are available through primary care providers or Metro Public Health Department at the Lentz, East and Woodbine Clinic locations. Appointments are necessary at the clinics and families should carry their child’s shot record to confirm what immunizations are needed.

Be sure to read the public school immunization requirements.
Children entering the 7th grade must have their tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis booster (“Tdap”).

Immunization forms are submitted to your child's school.

Exemption Requirements

As of July 1, 2021, children with medical or religious exemptions to vaccines must provide required information:

Medical: Healthcare provider must indicate which specific vaccines are medically exempted (because of risk of harm) on the new form. Other vaccines remain required.
Religious: Requires only a signed statement by the parent/guardian that vaccination conflicts with their religious tenets or practices. If documentation of a health examination is required, it must be noted by the health care provider on the immunization certificate.

Get a Student ID for Pre-K and Optional Schools Applications

A Student ID is required to begin the process for applying to Pre-K or an Optional School.

Online Instructions for Getting a Student ID

Visit the online portal and follow instructions to upload the following documents:

Photo identification of the parent or guardian (driver's license, passport, military ID, etc.)
Record of Birth (birth certificate, passport, visa, I-94, etc.)
Proof of Residency (current lease, mortgage statement, utility bill, etc.)

In-Person Help at an Enrollment Center

Families can call or visit their nearest Enrollment Center for assistance.

New to Metro Schools or Switching Schools?

You can register for school at any time in-person or online.
We also accept, at any time, optional schools applications from students who are new to MNPS or currently enrolled in an MNPS school but would like to apply to a charter school that participates in the optional school application process.

How do I Enroll as a Non-Resident of Davidson County?

Email addresses and telephone numbers can be updated by parents or guardians in the Campus Portal.
