Homeschooling

How to Get Approval for Homeschool in Nashville

At Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, we strive to be the first choice for families in Davidson County. Recognizing some families will choose to homeschool, here is the information families need to complete the homeschooling request.

Required Steps to Homeschool

To independently homeschool a child or children, please complete the following:

What is the Tennessee Notice of Intent to Home School?

The Tennessee Notice of Intent to Home School serves as notice of your intent to conduct a homeschool as permitted by Tennessee state law T.C.A. 49-6-3050. Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) conducting a home school under the supervision of the superintendent of a local education agency (LEA) must complete the form.

A child must be enrolled each year he or she is homeschooled, and the Notice of Intent to Home School form must be completed and submitted prior to the start of the school year. Should homeschooling be discontinued after enrollment, families must notify Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Homeschool Attendance Form

  • The parent/legal guardian needs to keep a calendar showing each child is receiving a minimum of 4 hours of instruction daily for a 180-day school year as required by T.C.A. 3050(b)(3).
  • At the end of the school year, families must submit the calendar to the Metro Schools Homeschool Office.
