Call-Outs, Closures and Dismissal Information
Because inclement weather always is a possibility during the winter months, we offer this informational page to let students, families, and staff know how, and where, information on school closures or delays will be announced.
The decision to call an inclement weather delay, or close school, because of weather is rooted in the safety of all our students and staff.
Latest Updates
Optional Schools Deadline Extended
The deadline to apply through the Optional Schools process has been extended to February 13. (The original deadline was February 6.)
Progress Reports and Schedule Change
Due to the recent winter storm closures:

Progress Reports will now be issued on Tuesday, February 10, instead of the originally scheduled date of Thursday, February 5.

Monday, February 16, will now be a regular day of instruction for students. This date previously was designated as a professional development day for teachers and staff, but students will report to school as usual on this day.
We appreciate your flexibility as we adjust our calendar to make up for missed instructional time due to weather-related closures. Please reach out to your school’s front office if you have any questions.

Information from the Office of Emergency Management regarding the county-wide response to the winter storm, including warming station locations, can be found on the Nashville.gov website,
Allotted Inclement Weather Days
As of Friday, January 30, MNPS will have used all allotted inclement weather days for the school year.
Per the Local Education Agency School Waiver Guidance: “Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-3004(a)(6) authorizes the commissioner to grant a waiver of the 180 days of classroom instruction requirement to an LEA only in the event of a natural disaster or a serious outbreak of illness affecting or endangering students or staff during a school year.”
We are consulting with the Tennessee Department of Education to determine our waiver options available due to the State of Emergency and the impact of the winter storm in accordance with existing TDOE policies and procedures regarding the Level 3 State of Emergency that is currently in effect for Tennessee, as remote learning options are not viable at this time.

Real-Time Notifications: Where to Get Alerts
Telephone Calls
In case of school start delays or closures, families will be notified via a telephone call to the primary phone number listed with their student's school.
Local Media
Look for information on all four major television stations that serve the Davidson County area. Local online news organizations often post the information as well.
Website Alert Banner
A pop-up banner alert is added to all Metro Schools websites.
Social Media
Check for announcements on @MetroSchools social media accounts:
- A note about the telephone call-outs: We serve more than 80,000 students and our call-out system cannot call all our families at the same time. The notification may take a few minutes after the notification is sent to reach your family. For that reason, we also post to the website and to our social media accounts as soon as we know schools will delay their opening bell or will close for the day.
- Call-outs only are sent for closures or delays.

How a Decision to Delay or Close Schools is Made
Making a decision to delay school start times or close schools on an inclement weather day is based on information provided to the district leadership team by staff who evaluate information from many different public agencies, as well as reports received from MNPS employees who evaluate travel conditions throughout Davidson County.
It is important to note that hazardous or icy conditions may affect transportation options in parts of our large county that may not be apparent in other areas.
Our team's intent is to notify families by at least 5:30 a.m. of school delays or closures based on the information available to us at the time of a decision.
If a delay or closure is not called for, there will not be a notification and students, families, and staff should report to school at their regular time.

It is important your contact information in the Infinite Campus Family Portal is correct to ensure you receive any and all notifications from the school district.
You can double-check or update your contact information in the following ways:

Log in and update in the Campus Portal account online

Update your contact preferences in the Campus Parent Family Portal app, which can be found in your smart device's App Store. (Download link can be found on the MNPS Campus Portal page.

Call or visit your school

Email the Family Information Center or call 615-259-INFO (4636).

If you ever have opted out of the call-out system, you will have to opt yourself back in to receive information.
