Rosebank STEAM Magnet School is an elementary school that offers enhanced learning experiences and social and emotional supports to help develop every child as a learner, thinker and community member.
Rosebank opened in 1954 to serve students in the East Nashville neighborhood of the same name. It was completely renovated in 2017, the same year it became a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) magnet school after it and four other MNPS elementary schools were awarded a federal Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant (MSAP).
Rosebank’s academic offerings include:
- Integrated STEAM-based units, with a focus on technology and biological sciences
- Weekly gardening experiences for all students, facilitated by Plant the Seed, a Nashville nonprofit
- Quarterly field experiences that support academic excellence and authentic learning
- A STEAM Lab and a Maker Space in all classrooms
- The largest violin/strings program in MNPS, currently serving more than 140 students
- Rosebank is the only MNPS elementary school offering Beta Club, which promotes leadership, service and academic excellence. Other after-school clubs appeal to students’ interests in STEAM, the performing arts, foreign languages and sports.
- The school also has community partnerships with the Nashville Zoo, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Shelby Park, Nashville Symphony, Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University and 4-H.
Having been recognized multiple times as a Model of Demonstration School, Rosebank ensures Every Student is Known by providing social and emotional supports for all students aligned to their individual needs. It has served as a leader in providing multi-tiered structures and supports to meet those needs. And its STEAM model ensures that all students have enhanced learning experiences during the school day and after school, as well as authentic opportunities that support academic excellence and future success in middle school and beyond.
“At Rosebank we use best practices, quality curriculums, dynamic instruction and enhanced learning opportunities to support the development of the ‘whole child,’” Principal Kellee Akers says. “We recognize that families want more opportunities, beyond what a traditional elementary school may offer. The Rosebank team is dedicated to providing the best experience possible for all children.”
