Students from eight MNPS schools were awarded 100 gold keys, silver keys or honorable mentions in the 2020 Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Awards on Saturday at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens.

Hume-Fogg senior Sarah Katherine Steen, whose work is pictured left, was selected as just one of five American Vision nominees in the Middle Tennessee area for her mixed media work, The Unknown.

Visitors to Cheekwood's art galleries can see the Gold Key and Silver Key works in exhibition until March 15.

The Scholastic Art Awards have recognized the outstanding achievement of young artists since 1923 with past recipients including Andy Warhol and Ken Burns.

"We are very proud of the achievements of 7th-12 grade student artists in MNPS who were recognized at the 2020 Middle Tennessee Scholastic Art Awards" said Jeff Smith, MNPS Director of Visual and Performing Arts.

"Participation in high quality visual art programs, led by talented visual art educators, has paved the way for these students to achieve the highest recognition in their art forms" he added.
