Some MNPS students, families, and staff were affected by the tornadoes that caused significant damage Saturday, December 9, throughout Middle Tennessee.
Three people lost their lives in Nashville, including the father of one of our students at Andrew Jackson Elementary. Our hearts go out to all the victims of the storm who are working to rebuild their homes and lives.
As students and staff come to school today, our teams will be doing check-ins to assess their needs from a social-emotional standpoint and working to connect families and staff to district and community resources.
Whenever possible, it is important, particularly during a community emergency, that we work to have our schools open so that students have access to warm, welcoming environments with nutritious meals and caring adults who can provide support when needed.

Meanwhile, our Student Support Services teams will be leveraging our social work and Community Achieves programs to help students and families at the school level. Additionally, we are here to support and connect teachers and staff affected by this weekend’s events to resources for help. We have been fortunate to make significant investments in the last couple of years to grow and expand our support programs to help students and families during times of need.
Nashville has experienced tragic events before, and we’re proud that we always come together to ensure our community has the resources and support they need to heal and be made whole again. Especially during difficult times, we are committed to ensuring that every student is known, cared for, and supported.
